The Gloa Success Story
What effects can treadmill training with an incline actually have on my horse?
At age 7, the Icelandic mare Gloa suffered a fetlock injury. After a two-year break spent grazing and subsequently being used as a broodmare, Gloa was no longer lame and was slowly retrained using the Sascotec Horsepower horse treadmill. Training duration and incline intensity were gradually increased until Gloa’s training program included treadmill training on an incline for 40 minutes, five days a week, in addition to riding training. At age 13, Gloa achieved an outstanding result (6 scores of 8.5) at the Icelandic breeding test (Fizo).
Stefanie Engbers (Gloa’s breeder, owner of the Ems Equine Dental Practice): „Without the incline training on the Sascotec Horsepower horse treadmill, Gloa would not have achieved such a good result at the breeding test. Gloa had trouble building up strength in her hindquarters. Strength in her hindquarters was not only essential for her to reach her full movement potential, but is also important for maintaining my mare’s long-term health. The pastern of her front leg is now relieved of pressure by her hindquarters during movement. Since there are no mountains here in the Emsland region, the treadmill with an incline was the best way to get Gloa back into shape over the long term.”
